My lobster and fish designs are borne from my love of visiting the Devon and Cornwall coast. St Ives, Fowey, Padstow, Topsham – all wonderful places to holiday and full of inspirational arts and crafts with a coastal theme. Shopping for pieces to take home to add a coastal feel to the house has always been fun and inspired me to come up with ideas of my own. I may live in the heart of the countryside, about as far from the coast as you can get in England, but my home has elements of the coast in all rooms, so it doesn't feel so very far away.
My love of designing and appliqué is inspired by Poppy Treffry and Cat Rowe, whose work I admire. They inspired me to learn this technique and get creative with designs of my own.

Full description
A beautiful free-motion machine appliqued cushion featuring 3 fish. These individually designed fish cushions will make a great addition to any home and always bring a smile. The fish are appliqued to the cushion front by free-motion embroidery. A fabulous feature for the coastal or country home. Spots, stripes and floral cotton fabrics are combined to give a unique look on each cushion, with a different fabric selection, from a palette of coastal blues, taupe, soft grey and usually some coral. The fish design gives me the most opportunity to get creative with combining fabrics to give each cushion an individual look or colour scheme.
The design is appliquéd onto a closely woven pale grey striped cotton by Susie Watson. The reverse is a smoke-grey polka dot cotton by Clarke and Clarke designs.
The cushion closes at the back envelope style, with 2 stylish circular coconut shell buttons. The cushion measures approximately 18 by 12 inches and the feather cushion pad has a cotton cover.
All the internal edges are double overlocked for a strong and professional finish.
It is a special character of free motion appliqué that the edges of the design begin to fray over time. If washing is necessary I would recommend gentle hand washing only, drying flat and pressing well afterwards.
