A lovingly handmade cushion cover featuring one of my own unique designs, a starling flock being pursued by a peregrine falcon. Every single starling has been carefully printed by hand, using acrylic paint with textile medium and my own hand-cut stencils.

The cover itself has been handsewn from an ‘upcycled’ beige tablecloth to give a hard-wearing finish, and has been decoratively edged with black piping. The design has been heat-set so is washable on a gentle, cool wash, and the cover can be ironed on the reverse.

This cover measures approximately 15" x 15" and takes a cushion pad of around 15–16" (NOT INCLUDED). There is a hidden black zip closure at the top, and the design is printed only on the front of the bag.

Please note that as this is a handprinted design on recycled material, minor variations and imperfections may occur – this just adds to the charm of a handmade product! As every one of my designs is handprinted, each item is a unique one-off.

There are few British wildlife spectacles more magical than the vast flocks of swirling starlings that come together to roost over the winter months. I wanted to capture the feel of one of these flocks, but also to add the moment of drama caused when a predator (in this case, a peregrine falcon) moves into the flock, causing the starlings to whirl around into fantastic shapes and formations.

Handprinting every starling individually was a challenge, but I enjoyed the process of turning them into a flock, and thinking about the direction of each bird as they collectively tried to avoid the peregrine!

The cushion cover itself is made from an old, 'upcycled' tablecloth as I love finding new uses for items that might otherwise have been thrown away.
