Item details

I recently acquired a little table that proved to be beyond restoring, due to a severe woodworm infestation. I was able to save bits of the table: the top and one beautifully curved leg. When the rest of it had been consigned to the flames, I was also able to salvage eight iron nails.

A few days later, I was also able to salvage several pieces of copper wire my local hardware store had no use for. It seemed appropriate to use them together. And the symbolic link between the nails and a crucifix made that the obvious choice.

The nails have been sanded down, but deliberately allowed to retain some of the natural patina and rust that bear evidence of their long history. They are uneven in size and shape, because they predate mass production. They are slightly bent from use, and I have deliberately not straightened them.

I believe the result is a unique and sympathetic piece. I hope you'll agree.
