Item details

Reinforced bookshelf, painted turquoise, using a paint that will acquire character with use. I've added a backing to the shelves, which I have covered with traditional African shweshwe fabric in complementary colours. The front edge of the unit has been richly trimmed with copper powder. This, too will acquire a pattern of wear with use that will add character to the piece over time.

The shelves are just 20cm deep, so this piece is best suited to paperbacks. Or to display toys.

I came by this little bookshelf from someone who was redoing their nursery. It was a little rickety, so I reinforced it. It's nice and stable now. I have a good supply of shweshwe fabric, which my family in Africa sends to me. I like the way it works with this colour paint. And then I learned of the existence of Frenchic copper powder. I actually squealed. I kid you not. I mean copper and turquoise are just made for each other!
