I love Raku. Raku is an old Japanese pottery technique with its origins back to the ancient tea ceremony. Watch Raku on YouTube. Pots are fired up to 1000 degs C. They are then taken from the kiln (with big tongs and gauntlets!) The thermal shock causes the glaze to crack. The dish is then buried in sawdust which catches fire, there is lots of smoke which delineates the crackles. Faults and blemishes are part of this process, and form part of the containers natural destiny.

Here is one of my Size 2 square Ikebana Dishes in Raku. 21cms square Red/orange highline. Unique crackle glaze.A truly individual piece of work. The 2" pin holder included is fixed. You don`t have to be into Ikebana to enjoy using my dishes. Its a very simple and minimal way of having stunning arrangements at home. No need to buy expensive bunches of flowers, all florists sell single stems so you can choose just one or two, and add some cane, twigs, ivy etc etc. as accessories. Each dish comes with a simple guide to help you get going. Its really easy, almost flower arranging for those who can`t arrange flowers !
