I have been a wildlife sculptor for almost 30 years and I specialise in British wildlife. I have also been involved with and passionate about red squirrel conservation since 2007. Here in Cumbria will still have some of our native reds left and the charity I helped found works very hard to try and help them survive.
Since I began making my squirrels in 2010, when I gave number one of the edition of 'Charles' to HRH Prince Charles, I have donated a percentage of each sale to red squirrel conservation projects throughout the UK. So far the total raised has gone towards vital research into the various viruses which affect Red Squirrels and also equipment to help us look after our reds.
By purchasing any of my squirrels you are helping one of the UK's iconic native species to survive...

'Rowan' is my fifth Red Squirrel sculpture and is a strict limited edition of 150 pieces, some of which will be cast in white resin and hand painted, and others will be made in cold-cast copper (painted version in separate listing).
She is life-sized (she stands at approx. 20cm/8" tall) and is in an autumnal woodland floor setting with newly fallen Rowan leaves and conkers peeping out glossily from their still green casings.
Rowan is a determined and mischievous juvenile, the second 'off-spring' of 'Charles' and 'Willow', and sister to 'George'...
I first sculpted Rowan in modelling wax, then after a double moulding process, she started to be cast here in Cumbria, in the north of England. The copper version is first wire wooled, then the copper is buffed to a shine using a cotton mop on a bench grinder with a polished compound. Next, liquid black wax is applied so that the recessed detail contrasts with the shiny copper. Finally the eyes are enamelled...twice.
Rowan is for INSIDE USE only, however, she can be placed outside if the surface is sealed. (Please request this when ordering otherwise she will turn green when exposed to damp conditions!)
If you place an order I will keep you updated on the progress of your squirrel and I will always try to turn the order around as quickly as possible. I use Royal Mail special delivery which is tracked, insured and next day.
