I got chatting to a little girl in the doctor's waiting room. She showed me a picture she was drawing and told me it was her Christmas stocking. (Her mother said she had been drawing it since they came back from holiday in August!) Amy, the little girl, told me it was an old stocking that her mummy had when she was little and her granny had it too from her mummy who had made it.
Later I thought about Amy and her stocking and how lovely it was to have an 'heirloom' stocking with all those happy Christmas memories in it. I wanted to make a stocking like that, so out came this red and green check Harris Tweed and the traditional red velvet. I really like the effect that the proggy technique has in rag rugs and decided to use the same technique for the trim on this stocking.
So far, I've made three stockings, all different. Thank you, chatterbox Amy, for the inspiration. This one is dedicated to you.
