About Murano Glass Beads
Glass beads have been made on the island of Murano in the Venetian Lagoon since the 13th Century when glassmaking was moved there to prevent fires breaking out in the city. Many of the techniques used by the artists who make the glass are closely guarded secrets, and it helped to be located on an island where few people were allowed to visit. Nowadays the glass making process is still done by hand and Murano glass is recognised as the finest of its kind in the world. No two Murano beads are alike and many are lined in fine silver or 24 Karat gold to enhance their beauty. Different artists specialize in different bead designs, perfecting their technique over many years, using the simplest of tools. As the saying goes "Good tools are nice, but good hands are better."

This pendant is made of a stunning 14 mm or 1/2" genuine Murano heart from Venice that I have mounted in solid sterling silver filligree in a triskel, or Celtic triple spiral, representing a foaming wave in mythology. This style of Murano bead is called "Oceanus" because it is made with blue, green and transparent glass swirled with tiny flakes of silver foil. It is truly a special bead, dancing with light and beauty. The entire pendant is 30 mm or 1 1/4" long and swings from a 450 mm 17 1/2" sterling silver chain. I make the filligree wire myself by twisting a narrow strand of sterling silver wire into the tendrils you see before you and then applying a little solder paste. The whole is then polished to a high shine. This would make a beautiful gift on Valentines Day or for your favourite bridesmaid.
This beautiful pendant comes carefully packaged in a gift box.
Note: These Murano pendants can be made in any colour. If you have a particular preference, just message me via the Folksy messaging system or my Facebook Page and I will make a custom version just for you.
