I while ago I was asked if natural handmade soap could be made with a version of the famous 'Four Thieves oil'...this got me thinking....and the answer is YES, it can!! Although I can't use that name as it has a trademark against it.
The original vinegar based blend is believed to have originated from some ruthless robbers during the 15th century. According to popular theory, the concoction was created by a group of bandits and grave robbers to protect themselves from contracting the plague while robbing the bodies of the gravely ill and deceased. When apprehended, the robbers admitted to using the formula and disclosed the recipe in order to receive a less severe punishment for their crimes.
Whether or not this story is true, the essential oils in this blend are known to have antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-infectious properties. They are reputed to stimulate the immune system, circulation and respiratory system, and help protect against the flu, colds, bronchitis, pneumonia, sore throats, cuts, and more. Modern testing has shown the effectiveness of the original blend and studies have found it to have a high kill rate against airborne bacteria.
I have chosen some extra special additions to compliment our favourite blend of plant oils and butters to boost the antibacterial properties of the essential oils, including rosehip seed powder which gives a slight gritty feel, and a lovely scrub helping get a deep down clean.
