Creating a 3d piece of jewellery by hand carving a wax master model is one of the most unpredictable but fun processes that I employ.
I start with only a very rough idea or outline, then carve away the wax to release the idea within! I usually carve hares, they are my favourite animal, and I can easily call to mind the curves and lines of a running hare, which makes it easier for me to work on.
Did I mention I'm probably slightly obsessed with hares???!!!

Meet Bornholm, this little hare is wild and free like the island he's named after!
This pendant has been hand carved firstly in wax, and then transformed into solid sterling silver using lost wax casting.
It has been finished to a high mirror polish, which perfectly compliments the smooth flowing contours.
As with all my work, this is my own unique design, I carved him from a solid block of wax, to release the joyful leaping hare! I have attached photographs of the carving work in progress.
Bornholm has 2 silver rings attached to the reverse so he can hang gracefully from his sterling silver chain. He is fully hallmarked by the London Assay Office to guarantee the purity of the silver, and bears my unique maker's mark.
He will come packaged in a beautiful Lucylou Designs jewellery presentation box, so would make a perfect special gift.
The pendant weighs 7.5g and measures 4.5cm long by 1.8cm high.
