The ginkgo, or maidenhair tree was a popular subject for Art Nouveau painters and designers because of its long trailing branches and fan-like leaves which symbolized a maiden's flowing locks. I particularly like this plant because it is in fact a "living fossil" and the sole survivor of a group of plants that were common when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Full description
This stylish and distinctive pendant has been hand cast in fine silver from an antique Art Nouveau button depicting the foliage of the Maidenhair Tree or Ginkgo. This is an authentic vintage design and very typical of the period. The silver has been heavily antiqued to bring out the detail. It has been teamed with a high quality semi-precious turquoise bead, which is the December birthstone, and mounted on a 450 mm long sterling silver chain. The pendant itself measures just 35 mm 1 3/8" long. All of the silver work in this charming pendant was hand-crafted by me in my West Sussex studio.
