The cry of the Curlew
Inspired by the coastal wetlands of the South West of England this new addition to the collection depicts three stone coloured, slender billed Curlews set against a dusky blue-grey and white striped background. I love these distinctive birds with their characteristic downward curving beaks and soft haunting cry. It has to be the most beautiful sound heard along the estuary.

As with all the other tea towels in this estuary collection, the central motifs were originally appliquéd onto fabric using free motion machine embroidery stitch, giving the impression of softly drawn pencil lines. This design was then screen printed, using water-based non toxic ink, onto ethically sourced 100% cotton cloth. The cotton is woven specially using a combination of ring spun yarn for strength and open ended yarn for water absorbency.
Tea towels measure: 46cm x 77cm
Machine washable up to 40c
Topsham is a bird lover's paradise. Walking along the estuary provides plenty of opportunities to admire a host of beautiful wading birds, including Avocets, Oystercatchers, Curlews and Red Shanks.
