Gemstones are an endless source of inspiration to me. Iolite is also referred to as "water sapphire" and is reminiscent of a crisp, dark winter sky. Its' shifting shades of violet-blue carry the spirit of journey, dreams and exploration - it is known as the Vikings' Compass as Viking explorers who ventured far out into the Atlantic Ocean used thin pieces of Iolite as the world's first polarizing filter. Looking through an Iolite lens, they could determine the exact location of the sun and navigate safely to the New World and back. A perfect talisman for someone embarking on a journey!
