I love old vintage sewing boxes, the small items inside are like tiny treasure troves.
These needle case and plump pin cushions try to capture a little bit of the spirit of yesterday when sewing cottons had gorgeous names, who wouldn't have wanted to have bought "gay kingfisher" or "frivolous pink".

Made from a selection of vintage and reproduction fabrics, these needle case and pin cushion sets will keep both your sewing needles and pins safe and sound.
Each needle case is unique and is made of a variety of fabric pieces. The fabric has gently been tea dyed before I've hand embroidered a scattering of tiny yellow centred flowers over the front and back.
The embroidery has been sewn using a selection of vintage silk threads.
The needle cases are nice and plump, each one has a padding of quilt wadding, and then they are lined with some tea dyed cotton.
The inners are made from vintage blanket fabric which has carefully been blanket stitched by hand to prevent fraying. Ideal for all sizes of needles (from those tiniest sharps and quilting needles to the fat, stouter darning needles)
The pin cushions are completely hand sewn using traditional English paper piecing. After the patchwork has been sewn the fabric is then carefully tea dyed to create a softened and aged patina.....then a piece of quilt wadding is sewn on the back of either side to add a little strength to the top fabric (and also stops the pin cushions looking lumpy and bumpy). They are filled with tiny fabric scraps so are nice and firm.
