Full description
This icon is my interpretation of 'Madonna del Perpetuo Soccorso' that is placed in Rome Rome. Ever since I visited the Church of Sant'Alfonso di Liguori all'Esquilino to see the original icon, it has been my favorite icon and I have 'written' many copies of it.
In this icon, blessed Virgin Mary is wearing a dress of red, representing the Passion of Jesus, with a blue mantle, representing her perpetual virginity, and cloaked veil, which represents her pure modesty. Jesus is scared by the 3-bar cross, lance and sponge that Saint Archangel Michael and Gabriel are carrying. He is rushing for his mother's help and protection, with one of his shoe dangling from his foot.
Traditionally icons were written on panels with tempera or oil, but I used watercolour in this one to give light and natural feeling - it is unusual and unique!

:: Materials ::
This is watercolour on paper mounted on wooden panel. The side of the panel is gilded using 23ct gold leaf. Matt varnish is used for UV and dust protection.

8x10" (20.3x25.4cm). The panel is 2.2cm deep. If you wish to order in different size, please contact me and I will be happy to make one for you.
