Beautiful, mysterious mistletoe, with its evergreen leaves and pearlescent berries, has played its part in winter customs for a very long time.

To Norse, Greek and Roman people it was a symbol of peace.

In France it was often given as a Porte Bonheur - for luck in the New Year.

The custom of kissing under mistletoe comes from England. Originally a berry was picked from the sprig of mistletoe before the person could be kissed – so the kissing had to end when all the berries had gone! We’ve conveniently forgotten that part today…

So wouldn’t it be a lovely to have a little piece to wear?

Full description

Peace, luck – and of course kissing! Mistletoe has long been part of winter customs.

So here’s a little sprig to carry with you – pin it on a top or dress, a lapel or even a tie.

I created it using free machine embroidery in subtly shaded green thread on dissolvable fabric. Fine wire is stitched inside both stem and leaves, so the sprig can be bent to shape. Glass pearl beads are hand stitched on for berries.

The exact size of the mistletoe sprig depends on how the wire is bent, but it’s around 1” high and wide (see photo with scale). It’s attached to a 1.5” nickel plated pin with end protector.

The mistletoe pin comes in a natural brown Kraft card box, perfect for giving as a gift or for safe keeping.

Please note

- While I have made every effort to show the correct colours, they will appear slightly different depending on the lighting and screen used.

- The pin you receive will be almost identical to the one in the photo, with slight variations due to the variegated thread used and the nature of the freehand stitching technique.

- Remember, you may be seeing it bigger than life, which isn’t always flattering!
