My aim as an artist is to try and make unique pieces, which have their own individuality and are a little different to what is already available.
I absolutely love watching the small birds which visit my garden, and I have loved doing so since I was a small child. Now my children love to watch the birds and delight is naming the birds they see.
I love acrylic as a paint medium because it dries quickly and suits the way I work. By starting with a stitched outline, drawn on my sewing machine using a basic running stitch and moving the fabric around to 'draw' the image, I can create a very textured, lifelike image. It is difficult to get this across with photographs. These paintings are my best seller, and when I have a pop-up shop and sell directly, my small bird series is a source of huge delight to customers.
These paintings are very special, because they can evoke the memories shared with your loved ones of watching birds together, in your home or in the countryside.

Painted freehand machine embroidery (Mounted)
This beautiful little bird is painted using acrylic paint, within an outline which is stitched onto canvas freehand using my sewing machine. This creates a stunning effect. This item is made to order.
'A highly coloured finch with a bright red face and yellow wing patch. Sociable, often breeding in loose colonies, they have a delightful liquid twittering song and call. Their long fine beaks allow them to extract otherwise inaccessible seeds from thistles and teasels. Increasingly they are visiting birdtables and feeders. In winter many UK goldfinches migrate as far south as Spain.'

I have always loved garden birds. As a child we used to watch eagerly as the young blue tits flew from the nest box by the sitting room window. Growing up in rural Hampshire I have been blessed by being surrounded by wildlife. Now my own children have a good knowledge of the natural world around them, and know how to appreciate and look after it.
This is the original piece, mounted. The mount measures 203mm x 203mm and the mount aperture is 120mm x 1200mm. Each comes cellophane wrapped.
Please note that the frame is not included.
