Full description

100g banana silk fibre; this is waste fibres (thrums) from sari weaving.

Banana (info below) silk has a slightly different texture from silk, I have found that it felts in well as a surface embellishment, when dry it looks just as lovely as sari silk.. It spins well and this is what is used to spin banana sari silk yarn.

The colours of banana silk fibre are slightly more muted than sari silk; rich rather than bright. There are many different colours in each 100g bag.

These are loose fibres of varying length some thrums are 6” long others 18” long.

From a smoke free home

The photos show a wetfelted sample-swatch and scarf with banana silk fibre as surface embellishment.

To see some of my felting projects check out my blog: www.feltersjourney.blogspot.com

or my flickr gallery www.flickr.com/photos/feltersjourney

Banana fibre is manually extracted from the part of the banana plant which are inedible & otherwise unusable. Banana fibre production is increasing in India, where there is a huge banana industry.
