Full description

Half doll figurines were popular in the first half of the 20th century, especially pre-1920, and were used to decorate a variety of ornamental and vanity objects such as pincushions, being the Zakka of their time. Most were made in Germany and have become collectors’ items, with those holding accessories or with delicate features and open arms being the most prized.

My half dolls are antique ones from various eras, usually around 100 years old. The price of the item reflects the value of the figurine. As antiques they will often show signs of wear, especially on the fronts of their heads where they have been handled. This is a feature of this style of product and should be considered part of the appeal – these are small pieces of domestic history wanting a new lease of life. I hope you love them as much as I do.

I have restored the pincushion component but kept this simple so that she can be accessorized further to your own taste if you wish.

This item is a German china half doll figurine from the 1920s, with Georgian styling. She is naked, with her grey hair/wig swept up in a courtly style. She is approximately 6cm tall excluding pincushion. The pincushion is made from modern fabric in a dark blue design and is stuffed with carded wool and lavender. It is trimmed with white cotton lace.

There is wear to the front of her hair, common to this style, though she remains glazed. Her open arms indicate her to be of higher value than some of my half dolls.
