This solid glass marble has been handmade by me using lampwork techniques. I shape raw borosilicate glass in a superhot flame by hand to produce works of art in miniature.
This has a vortex of dark cherry red and aventurine glitter spiraling down into a vortex. The red is at a different height to make more undercuts to give a corkscrew effect. The glass lens of the marble produces an odd optical illusion of looking as though the vortex spirals down further than the marble is deep! All of these effects are rather difficult to show in a photograph!
The back I have left plain solid black. This one I have not engraved my signature and the year, (although I can if requested before despatch if you wish). The marble is just over 23mm in diameter
I have fully annealed it in a digital controlled kiln as I want this to last to become an heirloom of the future. I have made this to the best of my ability witht he best materials I could get, but it is handmade so there may be some small bubbles & imperfections in the glass.
Ideal as either a fun gift, for avid marble collectors, or (and this is what I like them for) just for staring into them, loosing yourself and forgetting where you are for a while.
