The trees in the forest around my studio provide all the inspiration I need. Young leaves in spring give way to summers full brilliant canopy which, in turn, changes colour into autumns rich painting...before the leaves fly on the wind and the trees become bare. Light and movement are everywhere. The cycles repeat unchanged year after year however...every season brings new leaves...unique fingerprints for each tree....that appear and then vanish as if they had never been.
My falling leaf pendants and earrings are inspired by this. The moment a leaf falls....a transient moment captured...made eternal. This leaf is from a Hawthorn tree, or May tree. Its Genus name comes from the Greek word Kratos meaning strength. The tree is steeped in folklore and it is well known by some that you should never damage or remove any part of the tree or you will incur the wrath of the Faerie folk....who knows if it is true? I took no chances and made sure to pick a leaf already fallen...

"Thorn Tree" is a pendant hand made by me in my little Highland Studio. A real leaf from a hawthorn tree was used in the process and although it is destroyed in the making the final piece has preserved it's detail forever. Every leaf is different and therefore you can be assured that this is a one of a kind pendant. I have used recycled copper to make the pendant and this lends the colour of a windswept fallen leaf. The natural contours of the leaf have been picked out in a contrasting shade that whispers with the colour of the tree in high summer. To further add interest I have included some "Haws", the berries of the tree in autumn. These have been formed from rich glass and polished garnet chips.
The pendant measures approximately 40 mm in length and almost 35 mm across its widest point.
It will be supplied on an 18 inch antique copper finish snake chain and gift boxed ready to wear or give as a gift.
