The idea for this piece came to me whilst I was at the ballet. It was in the interval and I was sat with my sketchbook doodling doilies and I thought it would make such a lovely idea to put a circular doily pattern into the wing of a butterfly (as you do!). I did a lot of research on lace later on until I had the most complicated, intricate design I had (at that point) attempted to turn into a papercut. This was a big job, about 40 hours of fiddly, hold-your-breath type cutting and it remains my firm favourite. I have the original hanging in my house.

This is an A4 fine art print of the original Lacy Butterfly Papercut which was hand drawn and hand cut by Gemma Esprey.
The original was hand cut using just a scalpel on Soft White Murano paper.
Printed on beautiful Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl paper using archival quality inks that will last for years without fading.
Protected in a glassine sleeve and posted in a boarded envelope to arrive with you in pristine condition.
Please note this print comes unmounted and unframed.
