I've said elsewhere that I'd grown tired of a lot of what Christmas seems to consist of these days. I wanted to get more of a Little Grey Rabbit feel to things: 'the delight of a country Christmas with its carol singers, mince pies, sprigs of holly and blazing fires' as one description says of Alison Uttley's book.

For carol singers read christmassy CDs - for blazing fires read central heating and candlelight. But the sentiment is the same. And I wanted these little Babushkas to be a reminder of simpler festivities.

Full description

Another little Babushka from a group of 10.

Handmade from the simplest of ingredients and each one different to her sisters.

I'm liking the idea that she's taking the cones home to put on the fire. These ones are actually the cone-like fruits of the alder tree, (she said with a flourish of arboreal confidence).
