Stardusts is a picture book written and illustrated by Jane McGuinness.
The story features two little stardust pieces on their journey to Earth, during which they wonder what they will become there. Initially inspired by a Horizon documentary, 1960s hippie music and Carl Sagan, it's about nature, infinity, renewal, and the joy and beauty of life on Earth. The illustrations were created using acrylics, watercolours and Aquatone crayons.
Each hardback book is hand-stitched and bound traditionally by hand by the artist. The pages are printed digitally onto cartridge paper and the finished book is covered using high-quality bookcloth (colour of the bookcloth does vary according to supply! :) ) and a paper wraparound dustjacket. Each book is approximately 5" square.
This project was initially completed by Jane back in 2010, but it's only recently, after taking her large show-copy to display at craft fairs, that she's started making copies due to popular request! Various constraints mean that she can only make smaller versions currently, but each handmade book is made with time and love.
