I have only recently become enchanted by the possibilities that wood can offer to the world of jewellery and associated small items. Compared with making furniture and other large things, I have found that working with wood at this scale opens the eyes to a different world: the micro-beauty of wood.
One of my passions is old, classic, veteran and vintage motor cycles. This is my version of a vintage sized sparking plug, but one with a difference. Pull off the 'threaded' portion and it reveals a USB connector. Hidden within is a 1GB memory stick, jump drive, flash drive or memory key. It's made from English oak. I have listed three and each photograph shows a different one.
The old tins and spark plugs are not included in the sale!
I do favour a finish that allows the ‘woodiness’ of the material to show through rather than a glossy varnish and most of what I have on sale feature an oil and hard wax finish.
Superstitious?
…then with a wooden memory stick, you can always ‘Touch Wood’!
Not strictly jewellery I know, but this jump drive deserves to be shown off. It has 1 Gigabyte of memory. I'm told 1 GB will accept anything between 250 and 1000 photographs depending on quality settings. Or 250 MP3s at 128 kB/s.
The memory stick measures about 3.5" x 1 1/8" dia and is fitted with a key ring.
