I have spent a lot of time on The Orkney Islands off the Far North Scottish Coast. It is a land steeped in history and prehistory....runes carved into stone and artifacts from the ancients are everywhere. It is so far North that in summer it never fully darkens in the night. It was late in the evening and the light was low when we drove to Ring Of Brodgar after the holidaymakers had deserted it...we wanted to sit against the stones and watch the sun setting.....as we drove we saw a hare running through the recently cut grass....and then another...and another.....leaping hares accompanying us all the way there. The mythical status of hares are celebrated, on Orkney, in the work of many artists, craft makers and poets.....and I too have always loved them. That long summer evening when night never fell and the hares ran through the fields inspired this....."The hare and the Moon" I hope you like it as much as I do.
