I love making fine silver leaves - ivy leaves are one of my favourites as they show such a lot of detail. The Holly and the Ivy carol always jumps into my head so I thought I'd try and put them together. I found a wonderful holly tree, covered in red berries in the local churchyard and picked this ivy leaf there too. Both trees are powerful symbols of winter - the ivy a symbol of faithfulness and rebirth, and the holly is seen as the King of Winter - a reminder of the strength of life in the depths of winter's darkness. The Celts considered the holly to bring good luck and protection.
