Upon acquiring some beachcombed jet I did some research and fell in love with it as a material, and also for its history. I have had immense pleasure from working with it and discovering its innate beauty. Here I have married it with cultured saltwater pearls (more valuable than freshwater) as I feel they add a striking and elegant contrast to the jet.

Full description
These sterling silver earrings have been set with 7mm cultured salt water pearls and hand crafted from beachcombed Whitby jet (found only on a seven mile stretch of beach at Whitby, North Yorkshire, England). Made famous by Queen Victoria in the 19th century, jet used to be mined but is now only to be found by beachcombing. It is a semi precious fossilized wood dating back to the Jurassic period. It is a beautiful intense black in colour and has a lustrous sheen when polished. William Shakespeare apparently coined the phrase 'As black as jet'.
Each earring measures approx. 20mm from top of pearl to bottom of jet drop.
