An easy knitting pattern for an aviator hat with 6 sizes ranging from newborn to 5 years plus.
The earflaps are button fastening under the chin to keep little heads from wriggling out of it, and tiny toddler hands from pulling it off after two seconds, but if you are knitting for an older child and want the earflaps to hang freely just make two of the left earflap and don’t add a button – simple!
SIZES: Instructions are given for 6 sizes: 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, 1-2 years, 2-4 years and 5 years plus.
SKILLS REQUIRED: You need to be able to knit, purl, increase and decrease
YARN: 50 - 100g aran weight yarn
NEEDLES: The hat is knit in the round (I also have a knit flat version in a separate listing)
4.5mm (US size 7) short circular needle and/or double pointed needles
TENSION/GAUGE: 20sts and 26 rows to 10x10cm (4x4”) square in stocking stitch on 4.5mm (US Size 7) needles
My patterns are written in standard UK /US terms with clear instructions and plenty of pictures to guide you.
I am happy to give email pattern support if you need it.
This hat is knit in the round.
The pattern is also available for knitting flat on two needles. You will find it here: http://folksy.com/items/4453116-Knitting-Pattern-Aviator-Hat-for-Baby-and-Child-Tate
