Full description

It's been a while since I bound the very first copies of my book "The Great Silkie of Sule Skerry", but as someone who loves to listen to Scottish folk ballads, I find the stories sticking in my mind.

I wanted to draw a follow-up to Silkie, and after a little while the Scottish Borders folk song Twa Corbies stuck with me. There are several variations on the tale; some from Scotland, some from England, and some are more brutal or gentle than others. The Scottish version does not pull its punches - although I chose to take the illustrations in a subtle and softly expressive direction, this story is a wry take on mortality! The wandering, witnessing narrator in my own adaptation arrives in the form of a hare.

Each book, featuring evocative charcoal illustrations, is hand-bound using pastel paper and black linen thread, and is digitally printed on high-quality cartridge or watercolour paper.
