I love kimonos and am fascinated by the fact that a whole kimono is constructed from just one roll of fabric called a silk bolt or 'tanmono'. It is an exact length and width and nothing gets wasted. This in turn denotes the finished size of my cushions! The kimono is in serious decline in Japan and I am looking to save tiny parts of their amazing history. (No kimonos were injured during the making of this cushion - all fabric is taken from damaged and un-weareable kimono!

A really stunning cushion that almost seems to glow. Made from vintage kimono silk fabric printed with a traditional japanese garden design inluding stunning red and white poppies. The reverse of this cushion is in vintage black silk kimono fabric.
This unique cushion has been made from a piece of cloth taken from a rare and genuine japanese kimono worn by a woman dating from the late 1970's. The fabric originates from the Niigata region in Japan which has been a main producer of kimono silk for over one hundred years.
I hope you can display and enjoy this cushion as if a beautiful work of art or sculpture. Much of the cloth I use is hand embroidered or hand-printed and I think this is a wonderful way of preserving such an ancient and revered craft.
