I have a scallop shell which sits on a shelf in my bathroom. I thought it would be interesting to try to design a pattern for this type of shell, which would not only have its curve, but also the ridges of the shell would increase in size. I researched lots of pictures of scallop shells on the internet, and realized that some also have horizontal stripes, so also wanted to add this option to my pattern.
I am really pleased with the pattern, with which I think you can knit a really realistic looking shell. But what to do with your scallop?
Well if you knit one side of the shell, my pattern gives you a great tip to make it more rigid, to use as a little dish. Two shells sewn together make a great toy, or decoration. I did think they would be lovely as lavender bags.
Hubby suggested they could be fashioned into a bikini, but I have put that idea to one side!!!

You can knit this pattern either with doubleknit wool and needles Size 2.5 mm, or four-ply wool and 2.0 mm needles.
I have mine as a decoration in my bathroom.
If you knit one-piece you can make a curved shell, which you could use as a small dish.
Two shells sewn together will make a small toy. Or you could put lavender inside to use as a clothes freshener.
My pattern explains how to knit either the plain or striped version.
