The inspiration for this colourway was born out of my desperation for spring to arrive. Here at Vowley Farm in Wiltshire, the winter has been long and hard, and it took some effort for me to find beauty in the bare hedges of the farm, especially after an incident in which Alfie Purl, the head of our flock of Cotswold sheep, got his fleece caught in some brambles! Fortunately, after an all too rare sunny winter day, I became inspired by the hawthorn hedges just before they burst into leaf.

Full description
Spun from the wool of our flock of rare breed Cotswold sheep and hand dyed by me, this yarn is lustrous, strong and soft. The colourway is inspired by the bare, late winter hedges at Vowley Farm in Wiltshire where my sheep live. The yarn is two-ply in construction, but a little thicker than commercial two ply. It makes excellent socks knitted on 2.75mm needles, and 3-3.5mm needles will give you a slightly less dense fabric. The length is 236m per 100g.
Cotswold sheep are a rare breed these days, but once were vital for the huge wool industry which created so much of England's wealth. Alfie Purl (seen here in his full fleece) is the head of our flock. You can find him on Facebook - www.facebook.com/AlfiePurl.
