Full description

This unique stoneware vase was hand thrown on the wheel and left to dry for several days before being carved into shape using a custom-made tool. A natural, clay texture was added and the piece was fired un-glazed in a wood kiln to 1300 degrees centigrade. Flames, smoke and ash have swirled around the piece for hours, building up a natural glaze patina with plenty of variation in colour. The intense heat has caused two small stones to push their way out of the clay, and low-fire golden lustre has been fired on to cosmetically repair a few tiny scars from the firing. In Japan, similar repairs made with lacquer resin are known as "kintsugi" and is thought to enhance the beauty and character of a ceramic piece.

The vase will hold water and can be used to display fresh flowers. It stands approx 3.5 inches tall and Mark Smalley's personal symbol is impressed clearly to the base.

UK postage and packing for this item will be at a fixed cost of £2.90.
