Cool blue turquoise with its spiderweb of black veining has been married with inky black onyx in this necklace.
The main focus is a supre gorgeous specimen of natural turquoise in its host matrix. This is almost black in colour. I have picked the black colour up by using black onyx in the main part of the necklace, which has been hand made using wrap loops of sterling silver wire, in stations of turquoise and onyx, to make the body of the design. The turquoise here is faceted as are some of the onyx gems. The other onyx stones have been finished to a high, smooth polish. I have also used a pretty, simple round link sterling silver chain to complete the necklace.
The necklace closes with a petite lobster claw clasp, stamped 925 for sterling silver. The bail, holding the focal pendant is also stamped 925 for sterling silver.
The necklace measures 49cm at its longest length approx. and the focal pendant drops a further 42mm from the necklace.
I thought you might like to know a little more about turquoise. It is an opaque gemstone which contains both copper and aluminium. It has a brittle nature due to its platy crystal form, so is often stabilised. It is found in Iran, Egypt, USA, Russia and Cornwall.
