Our wooden seed trays are full of old style charm! Aside from being much more attractive than modern plastic ones, they are stronger and more eco friendly. Being half size (approx 7 x 8 ½ inches) they are a more useful if you are propagating on a window sil or just want to make the most of the space in your greenhouse.
Wooden seed trays are a traditional and environmentally sound way to grow your own seeds, as all of the timber we use for these is reclaimed off-cuts from a local joiner and would otherwise be disposed of. We never buy new wood for these (as this, in my opinion, defeats the point of recycling!) so how many we have available is strictly dependant on what timber we can get hold of.
They have not been treated as I find they work perfectly well without, but as they are supplied in plain timber you can preserve, paint or decorate them yourself. I have also used them in the past as a gift box when making up a gardeners gift set, so are useful pressies too!
