Full description

A fascinating, bold and unique statement piece of casual jewellery.

The chambers of this fossil ammonite can clearly be seen on the polished surface, with rich gold, bronze and brown coloured crystalisation giving this pendant a lovely warm feel. It is strung with a sterling silver bail onto a 19" brown leather cord, along side a string of sterling silver rondelles and bronzite cube beads which compliment the colouring of the ammonite perfectly. The ammonite measures 35mm in length by 29mm across and the necklace is finished with a sterling silver lobster clasp.

This item will be sent to you gorgeously gift boxed.

Ammonites were free-swimming molluscs of the ancient oceans, living around the same time as the dinosaurs and disappearing during the same extinction event. Some were only a couple of centimetres across while others reached over two metres. The animal would have lived in the last of a chain of spiralled chambers. Filling these chambers with fluid or gas allowed the ammonite to sink or float to evade predators.
