Ideal Fathers Day gift! This very special and unique cushion would be a stunning addition to any lounge, office, study or man shed!
It is made from genuine vintage kimono fabric from the 1950's. It depicts a bold abstract hand painted pattern (using the rice resist method) in black, white and russet of a pine tree and reeds. The reverse of the cushion is in an off white vintage kimono silk.
Whilst feeding my addiction to kimono fabric I was amazed to discover that Japan was heavily influenced by western modernist design in the 1950's and 60's. I have found fabrics heavily inspired by Eames and Day which give any piece of 'Bark Cloth' a run for its money. As with European vintage print fabric, these are highly collectable. But of course THESE are hand crafted, 100% silk and entirely unique.
There are two cushions available if you are looking for a pair, though the design is slightly different on the second one. Convo with me for details. Please note there are a couple of tiny marks on the fabric.
I hope this cushion can be displayed as if a beautiful work of art or sculpture. Much of the cloth I use is hand embroidered or hand-printed and I think this is a wonderful way of preserving such an ancient and revered craft.
