Autumn is my favourite season, with the rich colours of falling leaves providing masses of inspiration for creating colourful abstract pieces. I wanted to recreate the type of blustery day that sees everything swept up in a swirling mass of colour and movement.

Embroidered pictures are a great way to collect original affordable art, and make wonderful gifts for birthday, wedding, anniversary or Christmas.
Autumn Swirl is an abstract textile artwork, interpreting the rich colours and the feel of a typical blustery Autumn day. It was made over the course of many hours, using applique techniques, together with machine and free machine embroidery, hand embroidery (French Knots) and embellished further with ribbon and braid.
Colours include gold, burgundy and turquoise metallic fabrics, oversewn with blue, green, orange, pink and red embroidery threads. Rich brown threads add further to the texture.
The choice of materials, especially the metallic fabrics of the leaves, give this embroidery a fantastic glow under light.
The picture is framed under glass, and presented with a cream acid free conservation mount. It is framed by a mid brown solid wood frame (colour similar to a cherrywood).
Total frame size measures 400mm by 400mm, making this a good-sized focal piece for a living room.
