Item details

The Kicking Donkey Inn in Ormskirk.

"The Kicking Donkey was built in 1831 and was known as 'The Inn of Narrow Moss Lane'. In the late 1940's Joshua Tetley purchased the inn and asked the patrons to think of a name. The inn, because of its location, was a 'local' used mainly by farmers. The story goes that if the men arrived home early, the wives would ask if the old donkey had kicked them out (the old donkey being the landlady's nickname). This is how the kicking donkey came into being."
