I picked up a very tatty copy of 'Life Under the Sea', published in 1961. The fish on the cover appealed, and the photos inside the book were beautiful. I bought a smarter copy for myself, and turned this one into a series of journals and notebooks.

Full description

This book has been made using bits from another...how's that for 'upcycling'?

It measures 20cm x 15.5cm, is 22mm thick, and has approx 64 pages/128 sides.

The pages are of cotton rag paper, made from recycled denim jeans. (The best quality paper was always made from plant fibres, eg from flax and cotton, rather than wood). It is a lovely soft blue, and, being handmade, has a few imperfections, but none that will get in the way of your pen!

The pages have been folded and stitched by hand, trimmed on the top and fore-edges, but left 'rough' at the bottom edge. The spine has been 'rounded', and has stripey fabric headbands top and bottom. Oh, and it has bright blue endpapers too, and a blue silk marker ribbon.

The cover of the book is of bookcloth and paper. The cloth is salvaged from a damaged book I picked up somewhere-I loved the fish design on the cover! The paper on the 'sides' are of pages from the same book.

Its' little companion (They come as a pair!) measures 11cm x 12.5 cm, and has 12 pages/24 sides of the same denim paper as the larger book. The starfish on the cover is again one of the pages from 'Life Under the Sea'. The strip across the front is the spine from its' original cover.
