The Folksy monthly challenge for February 2012 was to create something for Wales and St David’s Day. This bag was inspired by this challenge and represents the flag of St David which is black with a yellow cross.

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi bag (St David’s Day bag) so named because the St David's flag is is yellow and black. This bag has been made from a yellow cotton fabric designed by Sandy Gervais for Moda called ‘Frolic’. I have combined it with some black linen fabric.
The bag has a flap that has a complementary yellow bias binding around it. I have stitched white lace in the centre, and on the lace I have hand stitched four yellow buttons. In each corner of the bag I have placed squares of black linen. On the linen I have hand stitched 18 black and gold vintage buttons.
The self fabric straps are long enough to carry the bag comfortably over the shoulder. The closure is a black zip which has a self fabric zip pull. The lining is a lemon silk dupion fabric. There is an internal zipped pocket.
The bag has been interfaced and lightly padded to keep its shape. There is a magnetic clasp closure under the flap.
The bag has been made to a very high standard.

Strap is 104cm (41ins) long x 3cm (1.25ins) wide

Internal pocket is18.5cm (7.5ins) wide x 16cm (6.5ins) depth
