I have always had a passion for books. An opportunity to use some of my huge stash of lace which I have collected arose when I decided to make covers for A5 sketchbooks/journals.
A sheet of linen was used as the base after it had been fused with interfacing. I layered several laces on a pre-drawn template. Each layer of lace was machined stitched. I decided which layer was to be the top layer. With this book my colour scheme choice was dark cream lace.
The top layer is when the fun really starts! Photos printed on linen, buttons, appliqué, sequins, beads, hand-stitching, more lace - anything goes! I think you have to admit they do look stunning. This particular journal has a photo of a pretty young woman printed on linen, five yellow shell buttons, six guipure flowers, vintage floral braid, sequins and hand stitched gold braid at the bottom.
These books have many uses, not just as journals e.g. sketchbook, diary, photo album, notebook etc. They would make an excellent gift for a person who enjoys drawing, writing or photography.
Measurements: The book is A5 portrait with 60 plain sheets of paper with a matt surface 140gsm.
