Made using a glass press these beads are 18mm across x 11mm thick.
The beads are made from cobalt blue transparent glass decorated with a band of silvered ivory stringer which has been twisted to give a swirl pattern on each side of the lentil.
Silvered Ivory stinger is made by rolling the heated end of the glass rod in silver leaf then pulling the heated glass into a thin rod or stringer.
The marbled stone effect is caused by a reaction between the silver and the ivory glass, in some places little flashes of silver can be seen on the surface of the bead.
This stringer is very wilful and unpredictable stuff that does as it wishes, so sometimes it will spread out and sometimes stay as a narrow band.
The beads were made on 1.6mm mandrels and have been fully annealed
