A Pentagram (sometimes known as a pentangle or pentacle) is the shape of a five pointed star drawn with five straight strokes. Pentagrams were used symbolically in ancient Greece and Babylonia and are used as a symbol of faith by many pagans and wiccans. The pentagram has magical associations, including representing the five elements of earth, air, fire, water and spirit. Christians once commonly used the pentagram to represent the five wounds of Jesus. The pentagram also has associations with Freemasonry and is also utilised by a number of other belief systems.
This piece has an antiqued finish using liver sulphur, this finish may fade with cleaning of the piece.
