I love making things out of paper from old books, and after I learned how to fold an origami lotus flower, I thought it would make a pretty little lamp. I have them dotted all over my house, and when I have parties, I have them on every other step of the stairs.

Braille is so beautiful and tactile, I thought lotus lamps made of old braille would be cool. They turned out really delicate and lovely. I've made some for my bedroom, where they look lovely against my duck egg blue walls.

I only ever cut up damaged books!

Full description

A hand folded origami lotus. The paper was taken from some old Welsh-language braille books that were going to be thrown away - so I rescued them.

The lotus is about 7.5 inches / 19.5 cm across and stands about 3 inches / 8cm tall. This lotus lamp has torn petals that makes it look more delicate, and has a different glow when the tea light is switched on.

It comes with a free battery-operated flickering tea light (batteries included!)
