Full description
These stoneware hearts are made by my wife, Jenny. She first rolls out the stoneware clay into thin sheets and then cuts out the individual hearts. A variety of decorative textures are then impressed into the soft clay. Once the clay is leather hard she then uses coloured slips to decorate them. These coloured slips are hand painted using a fine brush. They are then allowed to dry for a few days before they are fired. This initial firing makes them more durable and allows Jenny to remove any rough edges and then apply a transparent gloss glaze. This glaze gives the finished hearts a polished, glass like feel. Once glazed the hearts are then fired again to a much higher temperature. This firing fuses the glaze to the clay and makes the hearts much more hard wearing and able to stand the test of time. The heart is approximately 8cm from top to tip.
