Full description

These porcelain doves are made by my wife, Jenny. She first rolls out the porcelain clay into thin sheets and then cuts out the individual doves. A variety of decorative textures are then impressed into the soft clay. Once the clay is leather hard Jenny then uses coloured slips to decorate the doves. These coloured slips are hand painted on using a fine brush. The doves are then allowed to dry for a few days before they are fired. This first firing makes them more durable and allows Jenny to file off any rough edges and then apply a transparent gloss glaze. This glaze gives the finished doves a polished, glass like feel. Once glazed the doves are then fired again to a much higher temperature. This firing fuses the glaze to the clay and makes the doves much more hard wearing and able to stand the test of time. The dove is approximately 10cm from beak to tail. Ceramics have qualities that last an eternity, what better way to express your love for friends or family than with something that lasts a lifetime?
