Full description

These stoneware hearts are made by my wife, Jenny. She first rolls out the stoneware clay into thin sheets and then cuts out the individual hearts. A variety of decorative textures are then impressed into the soft clay. Once the clay is leather hard Jenny then uses coloured slips or oxides to decorate the hearts. These are hand painted on using a fine brush. The hearts are then allowed to dry for a few days before they are fired. This first firing makes them more durable and allows Jenny to file off any rough edges and then apply a transparent gloss glaze. This glaze gives the finished hearts a polished, glass like feel. Once glazed the hearts are then fired again to a much higher temperature. This firing fuses the glaze to the clay and makes the hearts much more hard wearing and able to stand the test of time. The finished hearts are approximately 6.5cm tall.

Ceramics have qualities that last an eternity, what better way to express your love for friends or family than with something that lasts a lifetime?
