Full description

"During the spring and summer he hides in the foliage of the tree, stationary and sleeping. In the autumn as the leaves fall he awakens ready for his season to arrive. In the winter months he hangs in the branches unencumbered by leaves and visible to all, the wind spins him arround, giving him freeedom of movement and life. he is truely a Winter Woodwose".

Sycamore and wire with oil finish 9.5" tall 7" front to tip of back branch and 2" diameter at the face. He is hand carved with knives and palm chisels and all the imagery and final finish was applied by hand.

The wood is a piece of pruned sycamore branch that would otherwise have been burnt and the wire is old garden fence wire and was salvaged from the back of a shed, the hanging mechanism is from an old key chain.

The piece has pyrography images of a dragon and runic symbols on the reverse as well as geometric symbols on the branches. These symbols are of protective nature and a link to passed Celtic beliefs and a magical age.

The runes spell out a passage that will be shared with the owner to reveal to the curious at their discretion.

If placed outside the wire will rust over time adding a richness of colour and age to the carving.

This piece will feel at home either hanging from the branches of a tree in the garden or indoors as a talking piece. For more photos and description of this piece visit my blog: http://woodwosecarving.blogspot.com/2009/11/winter-woodwose.html
